8 Things Non-Wrestling People Don't Believe About Wrestling

4. Eric Bischoff Is A Relic

The wrestling world stepped into a contraption straight from the mind of H.G. Wells last month, when it seemingly travelled two decades back in time to somehow, inexplicably, dredge up both Eric Bischoff and the (admittedly still relevant) Paul Heyman as figureheads for the industry leader's two flagship shows

Heyman, on account of his continued presence in the industry since the closure of ECW, was given a free pass. Bischoff on the other hand, raised just about every eyebrow amongst the pro wrestling literati. This was a man whose last involvement in wrestling came over half-a-decade ago, and one open about the fact he no longer kept up with happenings from the squared-circle. Surely there was someone more relevant than this absolute relic from an era long gone?

Not according to WWE's investors. In the wake of Bischoff being named the new SmackDown Executive Director, the company's stocks were said to have rebounded, albeit marginally, reflecting an increase in faith from the shareholders on the back of the two appointments. As far as they were concerned, WWE had hired one of the savviest men in the history of the biz - not an out-of-touch has-been whose prime came two decades prior.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
