When Drew Hankinson and Ray Gordy got wind that they were going to be called up to WWE SmackDown, they were understandably elated. Their gimmick would be something along the line of the New Godwinns, only the two would be billed as the Daltons. They worked their enhancement match, but were pulled from SmackDown at the last minute.

They were taken straight to Vince McMahon's office, with Hankinson convinced that they were about to be fire. Instead, Vince informed them of a gimmick change. He did this by showing the duo what would become known as the 'Festus Face', the vacant stare of a man who isn't entirely all there. Hankinson tried to replicate the face, which led to a back and forth between Vince McMahon and the man who would be Luke Gallows doing this Festus Face.

If that doesn't sound ridiculous enough, Vince then turned to Gordy (Jesse) and asked him what his favourite colour was. Gordy answered the question, and was simply told to get a singlet in that colour. Thus, Jesse & Festus was born.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
