8 Things We Learned From WWE's Opening XFL 2020 Games

7. Halftime Locker Room Inserts Improve The Experience

One of the first things spotted in that opening Seattle at DC game was that this felt like a proper sporting presentation, not some bizarre fusion between pro football and pro wrestling. McMahon made sure to hire the right people to ensure his new league comes across as a professional, honest-to-goodness sport.

Again, smart move.

There were no hyper-sexualised cheerleaders in sight, Jerry Lawler didn't nip into the women's locker room at halftime to see some boobs, and the lack of razzle dazzle felt refreshing. Instead of filling the 10-minute intermission with WWE-style soap opera fluff, the XFL focused on pure football talk, coaching adjustments and the actual game at hand.

The way they swooped into each dressing room to find out what the coaches were tweaking was actually better than the NFL's dull analyst panel approach. That overall emphasis on coaching and tactics the XFL's directors favoured was good stuff.
