8 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About Ember Moon

3. Her Old School Trainer

Athena started training as a professional wrestler when she was 18 in Texas. While former WWE wrestlers Lance Hoyt, Rodney Mack and Booker T all had a hand in training her, it was Skandor Akbar who she most credits for her success.

Akbar was a wrestler in the '60s and '70s, who then turned into a manager in his later years. His clientele included future legends like Steve Austin, Cactus Jack and Ted DiBiase.

He was proudly old-school, and his training sessions were incredibly rough. She described having to run alongside the highway while he would hit students with a whip! She grew to respect him, though, and credits him for getting her out of numerous bad situations. He was also the one who gave her the moniker “The Wrestling Goddess”.

Akbar passed away in 2010.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
