Then the ‘King of the World’, Chris Jericho was the first competitor to make his way to the ring in the main event of Survivor Series 2002. His usual Y2J countdown played, as the Madison Square Garden eagerly awaited the arrival of the first ever Undisputed World Champion in company history. The usual pyro hit, and the then-Tag Team Champion (alongside Christian) arrived. Something wasn’t right, however.

Instead of the iconic tones of ‘Break Down the Walls’, the live crowd were forced to sit through a fairly humdrum performance by long forgotten nu-metal band Saliva. MSG has a famously short entranceway, so Jericho had made it to the ring and was inside his pod long before Saliva had finished the first chorus. It made for awkward viewing.

It wasn’t exactly the greatest performance either, but it stands as another reminder of WWE’s long time commitment to nu metal. The same band provided the theme to the event, with the best-forgotten angst anthem ‘Always’.
