8 Things You Need To Know About XFL 2020
6. Emphasising Faster, Safer Football
"Professional football, re-imagined," is the XFL's new tagline. It's something that Vince turned to multiple times throughout the call, but what does it really mean?
McMahon stressed a quicker, shorter game, with fewer breaks, no half-time period, and a simplified set of rules. "The new XFL will be fan-centric, with all the things you like to see, none of the things you don't, and a lot of innovations," he said, before diving into key safety issues.
Again, Vince was reluctant to reveal specifics, but stated that he'll be speaking to a number of medical experts with regards to making the XFL as safe as possible for the players. A smart move, as concussions and CTE issues are a huge point of concern in the NFL right now.
Most interesting of all were his comments on game length. According to the Chairman, the XFL will try to aim for two-hour games. He described the NFL's typical 3-4 hour matches as "laborious," then stated that "two hours is a reasonable amount of time for people to spend on something," which is deeply ironic, given how tediously long Monday Night Raw has become since 2012.
