All seemed well in the WWE Universe at the turn of the new year. The 2014 Royal Rumble was on its way and the company had some definitive plans in place for the Road to WrestleMania. According to internet rumors and various reports, the returning Batista was set to win the Rumble and challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the 30th Showcase of the Immortals. Further speculation indicated that Daniel Bryan would face Sheamus and CM Punk was set to square off with Triple H. Two major occurrences threw a wrench in WWEs plans, however. The fans vocal displeasure with Batistas Rumble win and the lack of Daniel Bryans participation indicated to the company that an overhaul had to take place. However, perhaps more importantly, CM Punks sudden departure from the company the following day forced WWE to rethink their strategy. According to online reports, Punk had been growing frustrated with his place within the WWE, as well as the companys overall creative direction. While no one knows exactly what happened, it was clear that Punk walked out on the WWE prior to the next nights Raw broadcast. The Straight Edge Superstar hasnt looked back and both sides of the situation have been quite mum ever since.
