Though there has seldom been a time when John Cena couldn't be described as a "divisive figure", it was at WrestleMania 22 - during his WWE Title match with Triple H - that he first really got a taste of what it meant to be despised.

The curious thing about this is that Big Match John, at this point, had only been in the main event scene for a mere 12 months, having captured the same belt at the previous year's event from JBL. It wasn't like he was in Roman Reigns territory of four successive main event matches at the Show of Shows.

Perhaps it was simply the fear that he was being groomed for a role for which he wasn't suited - or at least, for which he wasn't suited as much as the iconic names whose shoes he was seen to be stepping into. We're talking Stone Cold and The Rock here.

Whatever the case, the contrarian Chicago crowd had it in for him from the outset, cheering HHH throughout the match, despite the fact that the latter was essentially the embodiment of the WWE status quo, with Cena a fresh-faced rookie by comparison.
