8 Times Fighters Won When They Should Have Been DQ'd
4. Daniel Cormier's 'Towelgate' Controversy
Daniel Cormier is one of the most renowned nice guys in the sport of MMA. Aside from his obligations as a professional cage fighter, Cormier devotes time as a high-school wrestling coach in California.
Though Cormier has immortalised himself in the MMA canon as the face to Jon Jones' heel, the American still hasn't managed to avoid controversy entirely.
After one of Jones' numerous mishaps left him on the sidelines, Cormier defended his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship against perennial contender Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson at UFC 210. But, unlike other fighters featured on this list, its wasn't Cormier's conduct in the cage that made him worthy of inclusion.
The cut to 205lbs was always difficult for a guy of Cormier's stature, but up to this point he had never failed to make weight for a light heavyweight fight. However, on his first trip to the scale, the defending champion missed weight by over a pound with just minutes remaining.
Cormier then returned just minutes later having miraculously lost the required weight.
It later became clear that Cormier had held the towel in front of him to decrease his weight in order to keep the title on the line and not have to forfeit any of his purse to Rumble.
Celebrated arbiter of human morality Jon Jones later called Cormier's antics "one of the dirtiest things" he'd ever seen.
