8 Times Fighters Won When They Should Have Been DQ'd

3. Travis Browne Eye Pokes Matt Mitrione Several Times En Route To Victory

Though Travis Browne is possibly better known now for his relationship with Ronda Rousey, there was a time when the nearly 7-foot tall behemoth was one of the most feared fighters in the UFC heavyweight division.

In his thirteenth appearance in the organisation, Browne faced off against former American Football player, and TUF alum Matt Mitrione.

As a fairly tentative first round between the two fighters drew to a close, Browne caught his opponent with a sickening knuckle-deep eye poke. Things didn't get much better after the break either, as Browne again caught Mitrione with an outstretched finger, causing a large welt to swell up over Mitrione's right eye.

With Mitrione effectively blinded in one eye, Browne would go on to dominate the majority of the contest and went on to secure a stoppage victory with less than a minute left in round three.

Much like several of his contemporaries on this list, Mitrione would later attempt unsuccessfully to appeal the result of the fight, with the athletic commission ruling that the referee should have intervened at the time.

Despite getting the W, Browne's career would take a downturn following his tainted victory over Mitrione. After a promising 9 wins from his first 13 bouts in the UFC, Browne would go on to lose four consecutive fights and hasn't competed since.
