8 Times Game Of Thrones Booked Pro Wrestling Better Than WWE

7. Brienne Vs. The Hound

Game Of Thrones Wrestling
HBO

There are countless examples of pitch-perfect-pro-wrestling-style storytelling throughout the show; characters steadily building a reputation through consistently winning fights and then fighting each other at a moment it makes sense to do so.

Brienne beat Loras Tyrell, the soldiers in Renly’s tent, the soldiers on the road, and Jaime Lannister before she faced off with The Hound at the end of season four. The Hound himself spent the preceding 39 episodes establishing himself as one of the most terrifying warriors in the seven kingdoms. The moment they met on the road is one of the most gratifying surprises the show has ever served up.

This wasn’t some simmering feud that had been building over multiple seasons, and yet it was one of the most intense, bloody, satisfying fight scenes ever put to screen.

In one corner, being accompanied to the ring by her squire Podrick, fighting to uphold an oath she swore to Catelyn Stark to protect her daughter Arya: Brienne Of F*cking Tarth!!

And fighting out of the burned corner, also fighting to defend Arya because together he’s grown to love her during their travels: Sandor "The Hound" Clegane!!!

Sometimes a classic fight can come down to simple, logical storytelling. The Hound had a shoulder injury to leave a smidgin of doubt and room for a rematch. Brienne gets the sh*t kicked out of her worse than we’ve ever seen but makes the fiery babyface comeback for the win. Two of the best fighters in the world who have good reason not to trust one another, fighting to defend a little girl from danger.
