WWE Stars Given Just TWO DAYS To Save Their Jobs (WWE News)
Various wrestlers released by WWE were handed a rather crappy ultimatum.
Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp is reporting that WWE/TKO chiefs approached various wrestlers during overseas tours about inking new deals. The kicker here is that many still had plenty of time to run on their pre-existing contracts, so any talks with management were deemed "earlier than they anticipated".
The general vibe amongst those asked was that WWE/TKO fancied getting ahead of the curve by suggesting talent take a look at possible restructured contracts before those representing them could take a proper look. However, it's important to state that Fightful called this "more of an opinion than anything".
Right before 20+ workers were released from their deals last weekend, "WWE approached numerous talent and asked them to take pay cuts in order to remain with the company". The most staggering add-on is that the company gave those people "2 days to make that decision". 2 days.
It was surely panic stations for the likes of Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, and many more. Of course, it's also worth stating that Fightful's write-up didn't explicitly say that those names were the ones handed the 2 day ultimatum. That's important to nail, but Black, Vega, Kofi and Xavier were amongst those let go by WWE.
The mass releases have left a bad taste in the mouths of fans and critics alike though, especially those cited as happening due to budgetary concerns. WWE/TKO rakes it in financially, so the mere notion that they were suggesting pay cuts at all will leave countless folks shaking their heads.
It's even worse that they were giving wrestlers such short notice.
