8 Times Game Of Thrones Booked Pro Wrestling Better Than WWE

1. Brienne Vs. Arya

Game Of Thrones Wrestling
HBO

This fight is still amazing to watch even after a dozen viewings. When Arya asks Brienne to train with her, you could almost feel the collective giddy response in the fanbase.

We know full-well at this point that Arya is not someone to cross after her massacring of the Freys, but we haven’t seen her engage in one-on-one combat with someone who’s reputation in the hierarchy is well established. She killed Meryn Trant by ambushing him, and the faceless girl by outsmarting her, but here we see her cross swords with Brienne of Tarth, who is firmly established at, or near the very top of GoTW’s power-rankings after defeating the Hound (thither-to unbeaten) in single combat.

What follows is essentially an exhibition match between the two best babyface fighters in the show. Arya immediately removes any reasonable doubt that she is now right at the top of the ladder through a series of almost effortless breaches of Brienne's defense, and although neither shot would have been a killing blow they could very well have been match enders in a more serious fight.

Brienne is legitimately shocked by this turn of events and quite literally kicks things up. The two femme fatales exchange several more thrusts and parries, each playing to their unique advantages. The action continues to accelerate until the closing sequence sees both fighters catching the other in equally compromised position and the fight ends in a breathtaking draw.

It’s simple yet layered; simultaneously low-stakes but extremely gratifying. This encounter wasn’t the culmination of a long running feud and it didn’t move a single plot point forward, but it didn’t have to.

Sometimes a match can exist just to answer a straightforward question. In this case it's just how dangerous is Arya Stark? After sparring with, and in some senses besting Brienne, we know the answer: Pretty damn
