8 Times Game Of Thrones Booked Pro Wrestling Better Than WWE
2. Cleganebowl
The build to it has spanned the length of the show, and in penultimate season, this one showdown stands above the rest. This is Undertaker vs Kane at WrestleMania except in this case, the babyface brother is the one with the burnt-off face.
This is a sibling rivalry between two of the best fighters in the world, facing each other on opposite sides of a war for the Iron Throne. The Mountain is Cersei's primary enforcer and is often times all that stands between the Queen and her many enemies, so that dynamic should play into the story one way or another.
When the two monsters come face-to-face on the crumbling staircase it's almost like for a moment every other plot line falls away to make room for one of the great payoff pitches of all time. The fight itself is brutal and almost frighteningly one-sided.
The Hound can't seem to mount any significant offence, and the few times he does (e.g. shoving a foot-long dagger through the back of his skull), The Mountain no-sells like the monster-heel that he is. The conclusion of the bout sees The Hound, who has lived his entire life with a paralyzing fear of fire because of that one time his psycho-violent brother shoved his toddler face into a lit fireplace for the crime of playing with one of his toys, drive himself and his brother over the edge of the tower into the inferno below.
As far as finishes go, this one sure as hell beats seeing someone's forearm set lightly ablaze.
