8 Times Stone Cold Steve Austin Lost Clean

6. Vs. The Hart Foundation (In Your House 16: Canadian Stampede)

Two months later, at one of the most underrated WWE PPVs of all time, the roles of face and heel were reversed, as the live Canadian crowd rallied behind their heroes against the odd American team led by Stone Cold.

As it was in Calgary - the Hart family's hometown - the decision to put them over the thrown-together babyface team was a fairly obvious one and yet, like WrestleMania, this is another match which Austin ultimately lost yet still walked out a bigger star than he did going in.

Austin's performance in this match is one of the best of his career and Jim Ross did an outstanding job of conveying it as such. Easily slipping the heel cloak back on again for the night, Austin antagonised the crowd by injuring Owen Hart, picking a fight with the elder Hart family at ringside and attacking Bret. In the end, Austin took the fall clean off a roll-up from Owen, before coming back after the match on his own to attack the whole Hart family.

It was a breakout performance. This was the first night you could tell Austin was truly becoming the man - and it was also the last clean job he did on PPV for over a year.
