8 Times UFC President Dana White Lost His Damn Mind
5. After Anderson Silva's Performances At UFC 97 And UFC 112
Anderson Silva is undoubtedly one of the greatest talents in the history of MMA. His legacy will be his incredible streak of finishes as he became the most decorated UFC champion in history.
However, Silva also turned out several uncharacteristically disappointing performances during his UFC tenure, though none more than his decision victories over Thales Leites and Damien Maia.
In those fights, it appeared that Silva was prioritising his flashy, showboating, style of offence rather than pushing the action. Silva was still winning by a wide margin on the judges scorecards but seemed more interested in messing around then actually finishing the fight at any point.
UFC 112 was a hugely important event for the UFC. Not only was it the first to be staged in the United Arab Emirates, it came after an Abu Dhabi governmental group bought a 10% stake in Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC.
After the Silva vs Demian Maia fight fell flat, White furiously told reporters at the post-fight press conference how angry he was with the UFC Middleweight Champion:
This was a historic event for us. The arena tonight was incredible. The energy was amazing and to end it the way that we did is an embarrassment for me, the Fertittas, the UFC and the sport in general. I apologize and I will, I don't know how yet, but I will make this up to the fans who bought this s**t tonight.
