8 Times Wrestlers Eliminated Themselves From The Royal Rumble

7. Mil Mascaras - 1997

It would be eight years before another competitor contrived to remove himself from the match, but much like buses a number of them came along at once. Three men threw themselves out of the Royal Rumble match in 1997, although the circumstances surrounding all three could not really be more different. This first one is one of my all-time favourite Rumble eliminations.

Mil Mascaras may be a legend and a WWE Hall of Famer, but he is equally famous for his unwillingness to put any of his opponents over, ever. As such, it is little surprise that his one and only Royal Rumble appearance ended with him eliminating himself, as no mere mortal would ever get the chance to throw the great Mil Mascaras over the top rope. WWE describes it as his 'daring luchador style' costing him the match, but we all know the truth.

Still, there is some contention about it. Mil goes through the ropes in order to get to the top rope, so there could be an argument made over technicalities. As Mil didn't go over the top rope from the ring onto the floor, was he really eliminated? Or by jumping off the top rope from the outside, does that count the same? Either way, the result would always have been the same.

Only Mil Mascaras can eliminate Mil Mascaras.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
