After defeating arch-rival Faarooq by disqualification earlier in the night, Ahmed Johnson entered the Royal Rumble as the second participant looking to go coast to coast and build on his momentum. Crush was his opponent from the start, and after easily disposing of Fake Razor Ramon the two resumed their battle. Crush was a member of the Nation of Domination at the time, so Ahmed was focused on payback.

That focus soon went however, as Ahmed stopped his onslaught to jump over the top rope and run down the aisle in the Alamodome. At first this looked like a momentary bout of insanity, but it quickly became clear that Ahmed's blood enemy Faarooq had begun making his way down the aisle. Ahmed wasn't having that, so he decided to cut Ron Simmons off at the pass.

Of course, he could have gone through the ropes to get to Faarooq, but sometimes the red mist descends and the red mist takes over. It was this very red mist that accounted for Ahmed Johnson in 1997, and possibly also accounted for his huge elbow and knee pads.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
