8 Times WWE Hit The 'Reset' Button

4. The WCW Reversal

Whilst WWE warred with WCW throughout the late-'90s, the company's loyal followers were continually indoctrinated to the idea that the lads from Atlanta were the absolute enemy - to the extent that DX famously even 'laid siege' to the company in a 'tank' (actually not a tank).

So it was hardly surprising that fans in the Tacoma Dome for the 2 July 2001 episode of Raw vehemently booed the efforts of Buff Bagwell and Booker T during a dry run of a proposed WCW takeover of the show's final hour. The match itself was not grossly hideous, but the mere concept of the dead rival daring to supplant the war's winner was anathema to an audience which had sided against them.

It almost feels as if WWE set the WCW experiment up to fail. Nevertheless, plans were in place for the defeated brand to operate alongside its vanquisher going forward - plans which were immediately scrapped following the Washington debacle. A new super-alliance of the warring factions was hastily assembled on the following episode, as the company totally reset the intricacies of the 'Invasion'.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
