As thousands of wrestling enthusiasts eagerly tuned in to see their Georgia Championship Wrestling favourites tear up another edition of World Championship Wrestling, Vince McMahon was preparing to shock them all. Vince, unbeknownst to the common fan, had purchased Georgia's timeslot on TBS.

Yes, 17 years before he'd own the letters WCW outright, McMahon was replacing Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes with squash matches featuring his WWF Superstars in 1984. The event became known as "Black Saturday"; it was a ratings disaster, having irked those who had enjoyed the regular show for over a decade.

McMahon is said to have pounced on the opportunity to gobble up television time in the south and take his company national. It wasn't until Ted Turner's station received complaints from fans about the new product that problems developed between he and McMahon.

Vince would later sell the slot to Jim Crockett for a reported $1 million.
