A lot of wrestling fans growing up during the Monday Night Wars must have wondered why WCW never ran arenas like Madison Square Garden. If they were now the top banana in North American wrestling, then why didn't they have access to the world's most famous arena? Simple: WWE blocked them.

On The History Of WWE info site, a listing for WCW at MSG on 26 November 1994 is shown. That same night, the WWF ran their own house show there featuring Diesel beating Bob Backlund to become the new WWF Champion. Was that the original plan? Maybe, but it doesn't make sense that WCW, especially years before becoming number one, would advertise a show at The Garden without booking it first.

As the story goes, McMahon installed a first refusal clause with the arena and blocked WCW from running there. In other words, he had the rights to strong-arm MSG when it came to other wrestling promotions, and suddenly decided he'd like to run a show the same evening WCW wanted to promote one with Ric Flair vs. Hulk Hogan on top.
