8 Times WWE Turned Trash Into Treasure

6. The New Day - Standard Heel Fluff To Sheer Money-Making Magic

24 The New Day Booty Os

Very much like Sheamus and Cesaro, WWE's apparent reasoning for putting Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods together in 2014 was because the writing team were short on ideas for them as individuals. Not to worry, because New Day made it work and turned initial apathy into sheer entertainment value.

Cast as a unit determined to make a splash and take success for themselves, the trio weren't convincing anybody when they later returned as a babyface group who enjoyed nothing more than gospel music and clapping as they danced down the aisle. Fans weren't impressed, and that ironically helped New Day greatly.

Turned heel by fan booing, The New Day then suddenly revelled in being over-the-top. Over time, they were accepted by WWE's core audience in a way they never could be by being gushing babyfaces. Who could have imagined that the thrown-together threesome with racial undertones would sell cereal by the truckload or get 'unicorn horns' over as a hot-selling merchandise item?
