8 Ups & 10 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Apr 22)
2. Heel Sami Zayn Is The Best Sami Zayn
Thank the wrestling gods that WWE brought Sami Zayn back as a heel, because the man is the most glorious git in the entire company at the moment.
The former 'Underdog From The Underground' spat out his latest diatribe last night. Starting with a typically over-the-top ring entrance, the Canadian put over his own bravery, because he "has the courage to tell the fans how horrible they are." He claimed that while people tell him he's bitter, he is a happy person, and had never been more full of joy than during his 10-month absence from the company, using photographs from his various global trips to showcase this.
While away, Sami claimed he was living his best life. It wasn't until he was forced to return that his depression and anxiety set in, and he was pointing the fingers at the fans, who he holds accountable despite their inability to take responsibility for their own actions. An Iowa jab brought the cheap heat, and Sami signed off by advising the fans take a trip to hell.
There are shades of The New Daniel Bryan in The New Sami Zayn, but also enough differentiation to make it work. Zayn is now Raw's preachiest villain. He's knocking this stuff out of the park, though the real test will come when WWE build a feud around this anti-fan narrative.
