8 Ups & 2 Downs For WWE SmackDown Superstar Shake-Up

1. Main Event Mayhem

Big Cass Daniel Bryan

AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan vs. Rusev and Aiden English was good. Very good, in fact, with the heels enjoying plenty of shine ahead of a DQ finish that won't please anyone, but blows SmackDown's main event scene wide open.

The returning Big Cass was introduced via a backstage segment earlier in the evening. Deliberately presented as a giant next to the diminutive Bryan, he poked fun at the former General Manager, then made his exit. This was all done to build to the tag bout's conclusion, which saw Cass interfere after Shinsuke Nakamura had already dealt further damage to AJ Styles' family jewels, and assault Bryan for the disqualification.

Many will balk at the idea of Cass as a main eventer, and understandably so. His last heel run was a rank failure. The Enzo Amore feud stunk Raw up for far too long, and while long-term injuries are never a good thing, Cass' at least brought the terrible storyline to a merciful end. Still, we're rooting for him here. He deserves a chance to succeed, and after spending so long on the sidelines, let's hope he becomes the alpha heel WWE want him to be.

Now, Cass has beef with Bryan, who has bad blood with the seven-footer, Shinsuke Nakamura, and The Miz. AJ Styles, meanwhile, has reasons to be upset with everyone bar Daniel. Throw the likes of Samoa Joe and Andrade Almas into the scene, and WWE have something pretty tasty in their oven.
