8 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dark (Nov 26)
7. Shawn Spears On Commentary
AEW's decision to place a revolving cast of wrestlers alongside Excalibur in the Dark announce booth paid further dividends with Shawn Spears last night, as the former Tye Dillinger proved he was more than just Man Who Likes Chairs with a slick little performance highlighted by flurries of colour.
Tonally similar to CM Punk, Spears came off well. His dry sense of humour came to the forefront several times throughout ("Kick him again, I don't like him"), and while not as warm or charming as Dustin Rhodes was last week, he successfully moulded his heel character around the role. Here, Spears almost showed more personality than in any of his other AEW work so far.
A particularly interesting moment came after Trent had defeated Pentagon, with an impressed Spears claiming he was going to take this to Tully Blanchard. Definitely something to watch out for.
