3. “Tomorrow, Your Childhood Dies”

Obvious statement of the year incoming: John Cena is really, really good at this sort of stuff. He cut a supreme ‘go home’ promo on the match with Randy Orton at Backlash. Cena even got everyone there live in Dayton to lower their guard by saying Randy was at home in St. Louis with his family so wouldn't be there.

That was a little sleight of hand by WWE. Orton was there to deliver a thumping RKO and send everybody home happy, but not before some extra sprinted out to take an Attitude Adjustment. In a neat moment, John didn't even look at that person, so the insinuation was that he thought he'd cut Randy's latest attack off successfully whilst barely trying.

Sorry, JC, but you were wrong.

Before the RKO, lines like: "Tomorrow, your childhood dies" resonated with the audience. Cena did everything he could think of to get people hyped for what's actually a glorified exhibition vs. Orton at Backlash. It'd be one of the biggest WWE swerves in recent memory if Randy left his hometown with the WWE Title, let's be honest. Cena winning is practically a formality.

Hopefully, full-timers on the WWE roster were backstage watching, paying attention to all of this and taking notes. This, dear readers, is how a top tier star puts some last-minute garnish on the build for a PPV/PLE match without droning on and on and on for 20+ minutes.

One thing Cena's biggest critics always admitted during his prime was that he could carry things on the mic. The dude still has that in his arsenal.
