8 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (11 Aug)
7. Wellllllll... It's Paul
If AEW is going to use Paul Wight as more than an announcer (and they should, given who he is), this is the way to do it.
You don't book a 49-year-old in destructive high-level programs that pull attention away from younger wrestlers whose best years are still ahead of them and could use the exposure. No, you put them on the midcard. Utilise their name value in shorter, less consequential programs with people who don't need to be protected to the same degree.
That was what happened when Wight came out to save Tony Schiavone and son Chris from QT Marshall and The Factory. Stomping down to new entrance music reminiscent of his famous WWE track (performed by the same vocalist, no less), Wight rescued his Dark: Elevation partner, chokeslammed Aaron Solow when Marshall threw him to the wolves, and effectively booked his first AEW singles match.
QT vs. Wight should be a squash. Marshall is the perfect stooge heel for the former Big Show to maul with a couple of moves. It'll be short, harmless, and fun, which is exactly what it should be.
