8 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (4 October - Results & Review)

7. One Of The Most Generous 'Ups' In This Review's History

MJF Not The Best Night
AEW

Another controversial and subjectively received MJF segment to wade through. It was good and bad, but gets an 'Up' here because, as ever, the building feels bigger when MJF is in it.

The face got over and the heels got heat. By the absolute strictest definition, this was successful - but successful isn't necessarily good.

This wasn't his best night. He has made funnier jokes in better individual performances and the booking of his ambush by Bullet Club Gold was less than ideal. He was called out by BCG, who felt distinctly midcard when it was their turn to talk. MJF answered, but wasn't at his incandescent best. He referred to Juice Robinson as "talentless taint". That line wasn't too dissimilar to something the Rock would come out with on an off-night. Juice practically twerked when insisting that his perineum is erect, the deranged logic of which was funny, at least. On the subject of the Rock, though, MJF actually did a far more effortless and succinct a job of getting each side of the arena to get a duelling chant going.

He then entered the ring, BCG bailed, and then they sprang the trap: Jay White was in fact in attendance, and laid MJF out with the Blade Runner. Last week's "vicious attack" - in which Jay was beaten up by four mysterious assailants - couldn't have been all that vicious. The cliffhanger was barely sold, much less teased or built upon. MJF Vs. Jay White is set for Full Gear, which answers at least a complaint made more than once over the last 18 months. The PPV build hasn't materialised two weeks before the show.

You can let this one play out.
