8 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (May 27)
1. Tyson & Jericho
Where to start with this mess?
If not for The Dark Order's 18 December disaster, this would be the most dysfunctional segment in AEW Dynamite history. The Inner Circle's pep rally began with the group gathering to exchange gifts after the pain of losing the Stadium Stampede, producing fun moments like Chris Jericho's King of Dad Jokes trophy, Jake Hager's poem, and 'Le Champion' upgrading Sammy Guevara's "nerdy crutches" to an even nerdier scooter. Amusing, but not exactly worthy of a main event spot.
Things unravelled when Jericho called Mike Tyson out, citing the former heavyweight boxing champion knocking him out on Raw back in January 2010 as a motivator. Jericho claimed he'd spent every single day dreaming of getting his hands on Tyson's "fat head" since that incident. At Dynamite, he wanted it on a platter.
Out came 'Iron Mike' flanked, for no reason, by MMA fighters Rashad Evans, Henry Cejudo, and Vitor Beflort, actor Mickey Gooch (what a name), and some other goobers. Awfulness followed. Tyson's awful, over-the-top acting had him coming off cartoonish. A man dubbed the baddest on the planet couldn't tear his t-shirt open. It faces a farce - and the ensuing pull-apart brawl tells us it isn't over.
On top of all of this, The Inner Circle, AEW's big heel stable, felt like the babyfaces.
