8 Ups & 3 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (8 April)

1. Swann Can Do It

You needed a strong main event to conclude the first IMPACT episode back on Thursday nights, and boy, did this one deliver.

Just by having Kenny Omega wrestle on the weekly IMPACT show rather than preserving him for pay-per-views only is enough of a reason to believe that All Elite Wrestling genuinely care about working with the Anthem-helmed promotion. Tony Khan isn’t sending his World Champion over to IMPACT just to promote AEW all over the programming, he’s doing so to progress both promotions in one go.

It’s worth pointing out that yes, this was a fairly standard six-man tag bout as far as six-man tags are concerned, but with the talent involved, it was impossible to have a bad match. What made this better, though, is that both trios worked together for not only double-team offence, but triple-team offence as well.

What’s key is that Omega and Swann had an important interaction ahead of Rebellion. Rich showed that he can escape the One-Winged Angel, avoiding an attempt at the move and almost pinning ‘The God of Professional Wrestling’ with a 450 splash. Had it not been for Don Callis breaking up the fall, Swann would have a pinfall victory over Omega heading into 25 April.

Swann instead pinned Anderson to win the match for his team. IMPACT had to get this match right under the circumstances. Everyone involved came together to ensure it was a roaring success.
