8 Ups & 3 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (8 April)

1. Strange Bedfellows

Look, the trope of rivals becoming partners for one night only in wrestling is rarely done to perfection, as proven when Sami Callihan and Trey Miguel defeated XXXL. As expected, the match focused more on Callihan and Miguel’s lingering beef more than the match itself, making Acey Romero and Larry D look weak in the process.

Miguel didn’t even come out when his music first played; he waited a few minutes and then entered. Disgruntled as he may have been, Trey didn’t actually have to come out to team with Sami, but your writer will happily bet Kenny Omega-level amounts of money that he’ll bring this up as Callihan forcing him to do so.

As a match, the action was fine. Miguel and Callihan executed stereo suicide dives at one point that were nice, while XXXL literally tried to tear Trey apart limb from limb. If it had focused more on these things rather than Sami blind-tagging himself in to the chagrin of the former Rascalz man, then sure, it would be an Up. An Up, however, cannot be awarded to such a nuanced encounter.
