8 Ups & 3 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Dec 15)

7. Cody's Purest Form

Fresh off his terrific heel turn at Final Resolution, Cody Deaner seems to have officially joined forces with Eric Young and Joe Doering this week, with 'The World Class Maniac' baptising the Deaner cousin to rid him of his diseases. An odd segment, sure, but it got the point across that we're now supposed to be taking Cody seriously.

The change was required in order to keep The Deaners fresh. It had become clear they were never going to be truly chasing the World Tag Team Championships, and so a turn to the dark side was needed for either of them - a tag turn simply wouldn't have been as effective. Aligning Cody with Young and Doering gives off the impression that he's now going to be positioned in a fairly higher place on the card, hopefully with a rivalry against Cousin Jake awaiting him.

It must also be noted that it sounded as if Heath would also be joining the ranks of Eric Young. We haven't seen 'The Hottest Free Agent' since he was locked in a room backstage by Young and Doering, with Tommy Dreamer mentioning him by name when speaking to Rhino and Jake. It was the way in which Dreamer mentioned the former multi-time Tag Team Champion, though, essentially saying he and Cody Deaner have suffered the same fate. It would be a shock, and maybe just the shock Heath needs to be taken seriously in Impact. Pairing him with Rhino again is an easy step.
