8 Ups & 3 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Sep 8)
4. Swann Dive
The main event of Eric Young vs. Tommy Dreamer was fine. Young is a solid, all-round performer, despite being 40-years-old, and Dreamer, who's nine years older, can still go for the most part. With the added Old School Rules stipulation, it helped hide the terrible portions of the match. Well, most of them.
We'd be foolish not to mention some of the match's mistakes. Most notably, 'The Innovator of Violence' essentially screamed at Young to hit his leg as he hobbled around with the aid of a kendo stick. That's undoubtedly been one of the worst portions of the no crowd era - a lack of background noise to cover up those who wish to loudly converse with one another in the ring. Secondly, a minor one, but Dreamer brought a table into the ring, with the match ending before it could be broken. That's more or less a crime in wrestling, to be quite honest.
A low blow and a piledriver to the hardcore icon saw the World Champion come out on top - as he should have - before he focused his assault on Dreamer's leg post-match, just like he's done to both Rich Swann and Eddie Edwards in recent times. The former Wrestle House host was saved by Rich Swann, who lobbed a crutch at Young's jaw to end the show.
As a match, it wasn't the strongest. Both men did what they could, and as mentioned, the stipulation helped save it from being a complete dud. Swann's return after the match was a fine moment, which is most likely going to result in a World Championship match at Bound For Glory. It should be fine - assuming Swann is fine to compete, that is.
