3. Gunther Boils Over

The build to this weekend’s World Heavyweight Championship match between Gunther and Jey Uso at Saturday Night’s Main Event has been brief, but it’s been full of emotion and fire.

Last week’s promo battle between champion and challenger was a scorcher, with Gunther blistering Jey on the mic. Monday, the Ring General stumbled a bit over his words, but he got across a few solid zingers, calling Uso a “funny little man” and the “company mascot.” He derided Jey as a “useful idiot” who runs to bail out his family, Sami Zayn or Cody Rhodes at a moment’s notice.

Jey leaned into the mascot line, saying that the fans are his team, his squad, and they were going to ride with him through Saturday night. He then delivered a biting line, pointing out to Gunther that he’s actually main-evented WrestleMania, while the Ring General has yet to do so. That’s when Gunther snapped, triggering a hockey fight that ended with an Uso superkick that sent Gunther bailing.

This wasn’t as clean as last week’s war of words, but they got there and delivered the brawl to put the mini-feud in the right mindset ahead of Saturday. Jey got to Gunther, setting the table for Uso to try to knock the champ off his game plan at SNME.
