8 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (20 Jan - Results & Review)

5. Old School Rumble Promos

Call it old fashioned, but seeing wrestlers coming out for interviews and simply talking up the Royal Rumble and why they felt that they need to win the eponymous match is just a fun, perfect little cheat code. It gives wrestlers television time and experience cutting promos while they put over the unpredictability of the Rumble.

CM Punk delivered the best one of the night, calling himself a history-maker who thrives under pressure, assuring fans that no one can beat him when he’s at his best. Then Punk dropped the line that already is making the rounds, daring WWE to put Hulk Hogan in the Rumble so the Second City Saint can “throw his dusty ass over the top rope and kill Hulkamania once and for all”.

As Punk might say, “Tell me when I’m telling lies”.

Punk said he was going to do everything in his power, including possibly calling in a favor, to win the Rumble, alluding to the whispered favor that Paul Heyman owes him. While this wasn’t a traffic-stopping promo, Punk reminded everyone that he’s still in the hunt for that big Rumble victory, making it even more of a must-see next weekend.
