8 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Aug 28)
6. A Nice Little Piece Of Business
Yours truly didn't watch this week's SmackDown thinking he'd compare a match to SummerSlam 2002, but here we are. Kalisto vs. Cesaro had a passing resemblance to Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle from that 18-year old card, which is a huge compliment.
It was a lovely piece of business.
Kalisto looked motivated and hungry to prove himself, Cesaro was predictably solid and worked well with a flyer, and the distraction finish furthered WWE's ongoing Lucha House Party break up. For the record, they shouldn't pull the trigger on that, but Kalisto looked so good here he could maybe work as a singles again.
If this match had happened on AEW Dynamite (perhaps without the screwy finish), then many folks would've been salivating. Fair's fair. WWE gave these guys just enough time to show their wares, pushed an angle and did right by everybody involved.
