8 Ups & 4 Downs From Beyond The Mat
6. Hitting The Road
The filmmakers paid their dues - and it shows in the final product.
The expanse of locations across the US in the film is impressive when you consider the technical aspect of that endeavour. Across the movie's 100-minute timeline, we attend venues large and small, established and underground, and gather a POV perspective of attendees and backstage personnel alike.
We also get stop-offs at hotels, homes, outside places of work and recreation, headquarters, and all the rest. By taking to the road and leaving no stone unturned in the A to B journey of a pro wrestler en route to stardom (or the reverse), the filmmakers went to a formidable effort in showing the viewers at home, that extensive travel and shifting gears is the name of the game in the wrestling business.
Blaustein's apparent respect for the industry is such that he demonstrates a similar work ethic and goes nothing short of all-out on his documentation. It is the true antithesis of lazy filmmaking in every single respect.
