Professional wrestling press conferences vary in quality, but last night’s was a rare misstep in the story development between Rich Swann and Kenny Omega.
Hosted by Josh Mathews, the show-closing segment saw Rich Swann, Scott D’Amore, Kenny Omega, Don Callis, and Tony Khan taking questions from members of the media, although Omega and Callis failed to show up on time. This left everyone else involved fiddling about to fill time. An alright section saw Khan claim to be taking an AEW official with him to the 25 April pay-per-view to ensure a clean victor.
Once Omega and Callis did arrive, things didn’t get much better. Big Ken ragged on Swann’s outfit for the conference, while also claiming that this was natural for him, to be stood on podiums ahead of marquee bouts. It all culminated in a mass brawl to end the show.
It didn’t hit the mark, sadly. It was essentially a direct ripoff of the pre-Fyter Fest press conference between Cody Rhodes and Jake Hager, as Hager failed to arrive to the meeting on time, leaving Rhodes and co. to field questions from the media. This wasn’t good then, and it wasn’t good here.
The segment showed on the broadcast lasted a mere ten minutes; it’s not worth watching the full forty-minute segment on IMPACT’s YouTube.
