8 Ups & 4 Downs From Impact Wrestling (May 19)
3. Words Don't Hurt, But Michael Elgin Does
When he gets the chance to just talk into the camera, Michael Elgin is exceptionally talented.
This week saw him cut one of his greatest promos since coming to Impact Wrestling. The main talking point from 'Big Mike' was him saying how everyone hated it when Muhammad Ali said he would be the best boxing champion ever, and how everyone hated it when Conor McGregor said he would be the best fighter there ever was. Having Elgin compare the hatred he receives to the hatred given to those two before they proved themselves was a teriffic move on Elgin's part. Everyone hates that he believes he'll be the next World Champion. Just like Ali and McGregor.
He still has two men to get past in this tournament (those being Trey and either Hernandez or Ace Austin, depending on who wins their match) before he even has the opportunity to challenge Tessa Blanchard. Is Elgin fazed by that prospect? Absolutely not. He put it best himself, as you can see in the above subheading - words don't hurt, but Michael Elgin does.
A cracking end to an already cracking promo.
