2. Lyra Ditches Bridesmaid Image

Since coming up to the main roster last year, Lyra Valkyria has come up short in several instances, most memorably the Queen of the Ring finals against Nia Jax. She also has found herself periodically de-emphasized and treated like cannon fodder for other wrestlers.

She’s been the bridesmaid a few times, so it was clearly time to pull the trigger on a big, defining win, and Monday was the night. Valkyria captured the new Women’s Intercontinental Championship, defeating Dakota Kai in the tournament finals.

The two women had an energetic, strike-heavy match, which isn’t surprising considering that both wrestlers predominantly employ kicks in their arsenal. They started out with a fast-paced stalemate, then proceeded to counter each other’s attacks before Lyra suplexed Dakota off the apron to the floor, injuring both women.

The match continued with Kai and Valkyria countering each other’s finishers until Dakota landed Go to Kick… only for Lyra to roll to the floor. Valkyria would manage to land Nightwing to win her first singles title on the main roster, which hopefully is the start of good, bigger things for the Irish superstar.
