8 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (13 Jan - Results & Review)
1. Gunther Torches Jey
No one ever has questioned Gunther’s abilities in the ring once the bell sounds, but few could have been prepared for the reality that the Ring General also would be a master on the mic.
Gunther was in the middle of cutting a solid promo trashing all the wrestlers fighting over “personal drama” like, “Who’s the Head of the Table?... Who’s the Best in the world?... Who cares?” while putting over his World Heavyweight Championship, when he was interrupted by Jey Uso.
Main Event Jey informed the champ that he’s put all the drama in his career behind him and issued a challenge for Gunther’s title. Gunther laughed a bit and hand-waved him before asking if he was serious. He noted that he had beaten Uso for the Intercontinental Championship twice and then committed a verbal murder: “When the bell rings, I will expose you for what you are: a talented tag team wrestler.”
Jey took the verbal beatdown before finally responding that he knows he’s not supposed to be here, that he’s overcome a lot to stand on his own and establish himself, and then he vowed to make Gunther respect him by beating him at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The match outcome shouldn’t be in doubt, but this is a perfectly acceptable mini-feud for a television special, and Uso should have the fans rocking in this one.
