Seth Rollins is in a strange place after his loss to CM Punk. He could easily slide into a heel role similar to Drew McIntyre by virtue of his hatred toward Roman Reigns. Or he could remain the flamboyant babyface who fancies himself the workhorse of WWE.
Regardless, Rollins’ venom and vitriol toward Roman isn’t going anywhere, and he continued his strained reaction toward anyone who helps Reigns on Monday night, giving Sami Zayn an earful about helping Roman recapture his ula fala and Tribal Chief title. Seth then mused that Sami might continue to help Reigns in the Royal Rumble and then against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, showing that this loyalty to Roman only seems to lead to one thing: the Tribal Chief winning gold.
Rollins then asked Zayn if he was going to keep helping Reigns or start helping himself. That clichéd line made a lot of sense to Sami’s character, as he has gone from a tag and singles champion who defeated Gunther at WrestleMania 40, to Roman’s backup in run-in-filled matches.
If that lights a fire under Sami – and he did seem to get that spark later in his match against the Miz – then that’s a victory for Seth. But if it leads to Rollins just seething more and more about his friends running to Roman’s aid despite his warnings, then that also is a good storyline development.
