8 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (Jan 9 - Review)

Downs…

4. Boring Corbin

Some fans out there will say that JBL and Baron Corbin’s routine is designed to be bad to elicit boos and be a sharp contrast to the babyface who puts them in their place.

But the total lack of nutritional or entertainment value from Bradshaw and Corbin was on full display Monday night. JBL went on his usual cheap heat rant, saying the fans were one generation removed from walking on all fours. Throw in a college football reference and you’ve nearly filled out the bingo card. All that was missing was a comment about marrying their sisters.

Corbin rambled about the Royal Rumble, and JBL make sure to call people “woke” and “snowflake” in a completely unironic way while standing in the deep South (though Birmingham is a bit of an oasis).

The routine was saved by Kevin Owens later (more on that later). But this is the same spiel JBL and Corbin have been using since paired up together, and it’s just… boring. The fact that KO saved it through his own greatness doesn’t excuse JBL’s heat time machine sucking Baron up and unleashing the cure to insomnia.

Fans shouldn’t feel like they’re about to break the fast-forward button on the opening segment to get past these empty calories.
