8 Ups & 6 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Sep 29)

5. What Even Is A Number One Contender?

18 July is the date Kylie Rae became the number one contender for the Knockouts Championship, winning a Gauntlet Battle Royal at Slammiversary to earn the right to challenge the champion at a later date.

At the time of writing, we're still waiting to see 'Smiley Kylie' challenge Deonna Purrazzo, although we do know that match will go down at Bound For Glory. Considering she won a number one contender's match, indicating she was the next in line, you have to question the booking mentality of Impact's championship committee.

Jordynne Grace had her obligatory championship rematch at Emergence, which is fine since that's part of the contract. However, Susie will now challenge 'The Virtuosa' at Saturday's Victory Road event, all because she's scored two wins over Deonna's pal Kimber Lee. It's unlikely she'll lift the strap, but her title opportunity shouldn't be coming before Kylie's just for the sake of having a title match on the Impact Plus special.

They're called the number one contender for a very simple reason.
