8 Ups & 6 Downs From The Undertaker's WWE Career

2. The False Retirement

If WrestleMania XXX wasn't the right place for The Undertaker's retirement, then 33 definitely was. His bout with Roman Reigns was an abomination. Fans knew the golden boy was going over the legend, and their investment was in the pits before the bell had even rung. From there, we got 23 minutes of sloppy, uncoordinated brawling, with the 52-year-old 'Deadman' appearing more mortal than ever before, stumbling around the squared circle, and generally looking like a danger to himself and his opponent. Reigns worked hard, but he couldn't salvage it.

The post-match was a stark contrast, with 'Taker removing his gloves, folding his coat, and leaving them and his trademark hat in a neat little pile in the middle of the ring. He broke character to embrace Michelle McCool, then began his ceremonial march up the ramp. With Reigns long gone, the arena turned a mournful purple, and though 'Taker's departure was wordless, the message was clear: "this is the end."

But it wasn't. WWE went back on what felt like an incredible moment (and a fitting farewell) by dragging Undertaker's carcass back to life months later, and the charade continues. As it stands, 'Mania 33 might be the last time this guy ever gives us the chills.
