8 Ups & 8 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Mar 26)

7. An Effective Opener

Vince McMahon The New Day

While nowhere near as hot as last week's awesome segment, last night's interaction between The New Day and Vince McMahon did everything it needed to, with the babyfaces coming off particularly well as The Chairman gave Kofi Kingston and his boys yet another hurdle to leap before he'd be thrown into a WrestleMania clash with WWE Champion Daniel Bryan.

The New Day kicked things off. Their words followed a similar theme to recent weeks, as they registered their disappointment at how poorly their boy had been treated lately, before acknowledging that they'd talked about leaving. This led to the trio asking for answers from Vince. He arrived, but Daniel Bryan and Rowan appeared before he could get a word out.

Calling The New Day a "stale novelty act," the champ shot verbal barbs from afar, raising the Chairman's ire. Vince spat his words out like your drunk uncle in an ill-advised Brexit debate, telling The New Day that he knew they weren't going to quit, then running through his usual B+ player spiel. Finally, he dropped Xavier Woods and Big E in their tag team gauntlet match. Job done.

Though nothing we haven't heard before, it was an entertaining opener between a cluster of WWE's most dynamic personalities. We can't complain about that.
