8 Ups And 1 Down From WWE NXT (Oct 7)
4. Dex Marks The Spot
And people say WWE products are plagued by 50/50 booking!
Austin Theory picks up an impressive, explosive win over Leon Ruff before being beaten by Dexter Lumis. Dexter Lumis beats Austin Theory before being attacked and beaten-down by Cameron Grimes. You win some, you lose some. Just in WWE both can happen pretty much at the same time.
Anyway, podcast rants aside and somewhat counter-intuitively, this was a really effective segment that somehow managed to get FOUR people over in their own way. Yes, Leon Ruff was beaten again, but he put up an eye-catching fight before eating the pin. Theory even smartly using a building his botch on the ropes to get into the finish.
For Theory, he was dominant in his first match, compelling on the mic, and looked great against the retuning Lumis too. Quite where the ceiling is for him, I'm not sure yet, but there are some compelling midcards feuds to be had at present and he should be right in the middle of most of them. For Lumis, this was just about reminding people what he's got in the locker, after being away for long enough to keep the gimmick from going stale.
And then, of course, there's Cameron Grimes. A man who can do more with one finisher and 10 seconds of dialogue than most of the main roster manage in a month. Sticking Lumis after the bell and mouthing off in the back is 1000% what he's about, and it's never not entertaining.
