8 Ups And 1 Downs For WWE NXT (Feb 2)
2. Karrion Is Kross With Legado, Stallion Stumbles
Curt Stallion may have had not one, but two Cruiserweight Championship matches shelved due to backstage attacks from Legado del Fantasma, but last night finally saw the 205 challenger get his shot.
A fired up Stallion goaded the champ into grappling early on, but soon wound up on the receiving end of some nasty strikes from the NXT CW belt holder. However, the presence of Scarlett watching over from a platform could not be ignored.
Escobar, determined not to let the appearance of 'The Angel of Doom' derail his defence, continued to dominate his plucky opponent. A sudden German suplex, dive to the outside, and splash combination teased a comeback for the resilient Stallion, but a Phantom Driver followed by Legado eventually put an end to the Texan's challenge.
Karrion Kross would then march down to the ring, taking out Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde with ease, before giving Escobar the gift of time. It's inevitable these two will face-off in a surely mesmerising match down the road, but at what cost to the Cruiserweight gold?
Also, poor Curt Stallion. Weeks of build just to be tossed to the side in a largely one-sided defence.
But, with the positives just about outweighing the negatives, this exchange steals an Up.
