The United States Championship match between Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens was exactly what you would have expected: a barn-burner of a good match.

Jericho and Owens’ hatred could be felt through the screen as they laid into each other, and the fact that the two were a tandem for so long showed as they countered in succession a KO frogsplash, a Lionsault and an Owens swanton bomb. Owens used the Walls of Jericho to try to get a submission. Both men kicked out of each other’s finishers – with KO getting one finger on the rope to break up a pinfall after a Codebreaker.

Despite Jericho deserving revenge for being attacked at the Festival of Friendship, it made perfect sense for KO to win the United States Championship at WrestleMania. Owens is the star on the rise, while Y2J – despite the old school countdown intro – is in the twilight of his career.

Still, the two of them had one hell of a match Sunday night.
