8 Ups And 2 Downs For WWE NXT (Apr 13)
5. Mercenary Martinez Picks Up Some Steam
Let's face it, if you were told this week that Mercedes Martinez would be locking up with Jessi Kamea in a one-on-one match on NXT, you likely wouldn't have dropped everything and rushed to your TV screen.
However, the sight of Martinez gripping Aliyah backstage in response to Robert Stone not paying up for her services in the pair's losing effort against NXT Tag Team Champions Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon a few weeks ago set the stage for an intriguing Kamea comeback.
Based on her size alone, Kamea actually felt like a decent threat to the one-time RETRIBUTION member and put in an admirable shift in the early stages of this clash. A particularly impressive springboard spinning elbow drop felt like another step in the right direction for the rising star.
Martinez was always going to come out on top here though, and sure enough, a sickening knee and Air Raid Crash was enough to get the job done. This enjoyable bite-size encounter was then followed up by Mercenary Martinez squeezing her wage out of Stone before making it known that she is coming for new NXT Women's Champion Raquel Gonzalez.
A good night of business, I'd say...
